Have We Got Camps For You!

We want to let you know about a great set of camps that will be available at the auction. Most items will start with an opening bid of 25% of the value.

Beam Camp www.beamcap.com (sleep-away, Summer 2013) ages 7-17 - (new families only*).  One session at this New Hampshire camp. The centerpiece of their offering is "The Beam Project - Every summer we do and build something never done or built before. Beam commissions a different distinguished artist, architect or general big thinker as Project Master to conceive each camp session’s Project. They design it, Beam Campers and Staff work together to make it happen."  (Thank you Donna Taylor!)

Camp Echo www.campecho.com (sleep-away) ages 7-13. (new families only*).  Camp Echo is a traditional, coed, sleep-away camp located about 90 minutes from New York City. The camp is situated in a beautiful natural environment, including a private lake and 200+ acres of fields and wooded trails. Our surroundings provide the perfect setting for trotting horses, rowing boats, hitting balls, riding bikes, discovering trails, painting canvases, roasting marshmallows, and making new best friends. Park Slope Day Camp  http://parkslopedaycamp.com/ ($500 Gift Cert) ages 3.5-10, 2 week minimum enrollment Must complete online registration by June 22.  The best of Brooklyn summer camps since 1992, The Park Slope Day Camp is a private summer and holiday camp with locations in the Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Carroll Gardens and Bay Ridge communities of Brooklyn. Campers enjoy the wide variety of activities our camps offer. Parents love our flexible and accommodating schedules and programs (Thank you Alison Offerman Celentano!)

Child's Play NYC Theatre Day Camp http://childsplayny.com (one week) Ages 3-10.  "In  our summer camps, children learn the craft of acting from professional performers, and in doing so cultivate self-expression and artistry. 

Sessions for ages 3-5 in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn and Clinton Hill, Brooklyn will include: Animals in ACTion, Ocean Adventures, Magical Travels and Fairy Tale Improv. Campers explore creative movement, theater games, improvisation, song and literature in our theater camp.  They are taught character-driven physicality and vocal techniques by professional actors and teachers.  Play is at the heart of the camp, and the children’s intuitions and imaginations are encouraged at every step. (9:00am-12:00pm at Cobble Hill Ballet in Carroll Gardens and South Oxford Space in Fort Greene –)

Sessions for ages 6-10 in Brooklyn Heights will include: Adventures in Musical Theater, Roald Dahl on Stage and Shakespeare Players. (1:30pm-5:00pm at St Francis College Theater – ). Kids learn how to create a character from a place of instinct and play.  Depending on the session they also amass skills in singing, dance, speech, improvisation and Shakespeare taught by master teachers and performers at the top of their field.

Faculty:  Student ratio is 1:6 or lower.  All facilities are beautiful and air-conditioned. (Thank you Ron Cohen!)

Saba Skills Soccer Day Camp http://sabaskills.com/index.php  (one week) Girls and boys ages 4 to 15 Red Hook Turf Field, Brooklyn.  A fantastic soccer camp experience - CAMP IS OPEN FOR ALL PLAYERS and LEVELS. All camp sessions include methods and activities used at Ajax and West Ham youth academies.  Players from AYSO and other travel clubs welcome.

Camp Intrepid (Day Camp) http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/CampIntrepid.aspx (one week)  Celebrate the Intrepid’s 30th Anniversary as a Museum and welcome the shuttle, Enterprise, to its new home!  Appropriate for campers ages 5-13 years old.  Choose a week between June 11-August 24, 2012.  Camp includes: hands-on interactive exhibits of sea, air, space and life at sea in the Exploreum and ship exploration & conversations with former crew members and curatorial tours. The camp uses a project-based inquiry approach to learning how inventions work, making and cooking with solar ovens, creating and launching bottle rockets, and exploring circuitry.  Weekly outdoor highlights include: Ship Shape relays, obstacle courses, crew training exercises and a boat ride on Circle Line’s “Beast”!  (Thank you Donna Taylor and Oleg Rozenberg!)

Auction Committee Meeting

Hello BSI Parents -
 
Mark your calendars for a Silent Auction/Year End Gala meeting, to be held at Draft Barn on Thursday May 3rd at 7:00pm. This will be an opportunity for BSI parents to have a drink together and continue planning this all important Fundraiser.  We hope to see you there!
